A special Service of Thanksgiving was held at St Ernan’s Church on Sunday 10th May to mark an important moment in the building’s history.
Following the successful community purchase of the church in March, local residents, supporters and visitors gathered together to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for this much-loved building.
Built in 1899 by local crofters and fishermen using granite from nearby quarries, St Ernan’s has been at the heart of community life for more than 125 years.
During the service, Rev. Amanda MacQuarrie reflected on the church’s history and the many memories held within its walls, reminding those gathered that while buildings are important, it is people who create community.
A particularly moving moment came when the church’s pulpit Bible was presented to Linda Cameron, Chair of St Ernan’s by the Loch, as a symbol of the building’s continuing place at the heart of the Ross of Mull and Iona community.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to preserving the heritage of St Ernan’s while creating a welcoming and sustainable space for future generations.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special occasion.
